For parents & teachers

MyMathFriend is a free practice site where children aged 6 to 13 can learn math one small step at a time, on their own. Like a good workbook page, each step holds one kind of activity and 8 to 10 problems.

How the course is organised

StageAgesContentUnits · steps
Intro6Numbers to 10, adding and subtracting13 · 43
Stage 16~7Numbers to 20, adding and subtracting30 · 117
Stage 2 (provisional)8Carrying, borrowing and numbers to 1007 · 22
Stage 3 (provisional)9Two-digit sums and times tables9 · 34
Stage 4 (provisional)10Multiplying, dividing and first fractions8 · 29
Stage 5 (provisional)11Big numbers, fraction and decimal sums, angles8 · 31
Stage 6 (provisional)12Factors, common denominators, multiplying fractions and decimals, area8 · 32
Stage 7 (provisional)13Dividing fractions and decimals, ratio and percent, circles and volume9 · 33

That is 92 units and 341 steps in all. Intro and Stage 1 split each activity into its own small step; Stage 2 and up are provisional, based on the elementary curriculum, and will be split further.

Records and privacy

Stars, XP and badges are stored only in this browser. We do not ask for or send any personal data such as a child’s name or email. To move progress to another device, copy the growth code from “My growth” and paste it there. Accounts (several child profiles, automatic sync) are planned as parent accounts, and practising will stay free.

How problems are made

Every problem is generated on the spot within the range set for its step (for example, teen plus a digit without carrying). Three correct answers in a row shift to slightly bigger numbers inside the same range; two wrong in a row shift to smaller ones. Wrong choices are built from typical mistakes (swapped digits, a forgotten carry) so they are meaningful.
