Making the most of stars, XP, badges and review
In shortStars reflect accuracy in one round: 90% or better earns three, 70% earns two, 50% earns one. Each step keeps its best result, so repeating a step can never lower its stars.
How stars are earned
| Stars | Accuracy | 8-problem round | 10-problem round |
|---|---|---|---|
| ★★★ | 90% or better | 8 of 8 | 9 of 10 |
| ★★ | 70% or better | 6 of 8 | 7 of 10 |
| ★ | 50% or better | 4 of 8 | 5 of 10 |
In a 8-problem round, three stars means all 8 correct. One mistake gives two stars, so let younger children know that two stars is a good result too.

When is it worth repeating a step?
“Try again” gives new problems from the same range. Use these markers to decide what to do next.
- Step: one or more stars puts the next step in the suggested order. It does not have to be three.
- Unit cleared: every step in the unit has at least one star.
- Unit mastered: every step in the unit has three stars.
- Stage cleared: every unit in the stage is cleared.
There is no need to repeat until three stars. If your child gets bored, move on and come back later through review.
Why the numbers change
During a step, three correct answers in a row bring slightly bigger numbers within the same range, and two wrong in a row bring smaller ones. This matches the problems to how your child is doing right now. The range covered by the step does not change.
The Daily challenge skips this adjustment so that everyone gets the same problems.
Review today
Up to three older steps appear under “Review today” on the Learn screen, oldest first.
- Steps with one or two stars: more than 5 days since last played
- Steps with three stars: more than 14 days since last played
If nothing is due, this box does not appear. “Continue” on the same screen picks up where your child left off.
XP and ranks
Each correct answer earns 10 XP, finishing a round adds 10, and a perfect round adds 20. Earning three stars on a step for the first time adds 30. Ranks rise as XP grows.
| Rank | XP needed |
|---|---|
| Sprout | 0 |
| Beanstalk | 200 |
| Bunny | 500 |
| Squirrel | 1,000 |
| Fox | 2,000 |
| Deer | 3,500 |
| Wolf | 5,500 |
| Eagle | 8,000 |
| Lion | 12,000 |
| Dragon | 17,000 |
Badges
There are 20 badges, earned for moments like a first round, first three stars, a perfect round, day streaks, problems solved, mastering a unit and clearing a stage. Badges are never taken away.
The “Lightning Hands” badge needs a perfect round at under 6 seconds a problem on average. Speed is not the goal, so if your child starts rushing, praise careful work first.
